The position of the UN in the Somalian crisis does not seem clear from the point of view of the Ethiopian occupational force. Is the UN backing Ethiopia with respect to Ethiopia's occupation of Somalia? If not and one hopes this is the position, then why does UN not expess its disgust at this despicable action of Ethiopia that has resulted in the death of thousands of innocent Somalian citizens and the displacement of over half a million Somalians. Futhermore, what exactly is the purpose of the supposed other UN peacekeeping forces from Uganda, Nigeria etc. in Somalia? Are they backing up the Ethiopian forces and if not how effective are those UN forces. Without mincing words, PEACE is what is required in Somalia and there is no doubt that PEACE can only be attained by negotiated settlement and the UN pretty well knows this truism. To effectively help Somalia to finally have the elusive PEACE, UN should implore the occupying forces, Ethiopia and the US Naval ship to leave Somalia and should organize a negotiated settlement between all Somalian stake holders. ALL WE ARE SAYING, IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!

The Ethiopian army went into somalia with the request of the UN-backed Transitional Somali Government and all what they are trying to do is to bring peace and stability to that war-torn country. The men and women of the Ethiopian defence forces are bravely confronting the devisive and destructive hardline forces (The Islamists). The Ethiopians are sacrifying their life to help the brotherly people of Somalia. Of course, for the Islamists and their supporters this is a bitter pill. After all, we would not be where we are now had it not been for the aggressive and abusive strategy of the Isalmists. The islamists used to control part of Somalia. By then there was no serious problem. But when the islamists started to threat the security of Ethiopia the problem started. But then, the Islamists are the poodles of the tyrant regime in Eritrea. So nothing less is expected from them. I am very dissappointed by the behaviour of many African countries who failed to translate their words into action by not sending the required force when there was peaceful opportunity soon after the Islamists were defeted decisevely. At this juncture, I would like to thank the brotherly people of Uganda and Burundi for putting their daughters and sons in harm's way for the sake of peace in Somalia. I sincerely hope that the peoples of Somalia would find a peaceful solution among themselves and that the UN can help them to turn the corner.

Extremism has no place in the 21st century.

Ethiopia has set up an illegitimate government of warlords, who want to impose their rule on an unwilling populace. This Transitional government is undemocratic, and is deeply unpopular in Somalia. This government was never voted for, never represented the will of the Somali people, but rather the will of their Ethiopian masters who control their every move from Addis Ababa. The Ethiopians subsequently invaded Somalia in order to prop up the illegitimate government, which has no support in Somalia. The result of the Ethiopian occupation of Somalia has been the death of thousands of civilians, and the displacement of more than one million civilians. The Ethiopian army has occupied Somalia for 1 year now, and the situation in Somalia is the worst humanitarian situation in the world. Interestingly, the UN has been silent about the situation THEY helped create, by lifting the arms embargo THEY imposed, which gave the green light for Ethiopia to invade. The only solution to the current crisis is for the UN to own up to its mistakes, and send in peacekeepers to replace the undisciplined, barbaric Ethiopian troops who cannot distinguish between combatants and innocent civilians.
