Libyan jets, rocket propelled grenades and soldiers were used to try and sustain the unpopular and ultimately fascist regime of Gen. Idi Amin in the liberation war against the dictator in 1979.
This sounds patriotic, good and dandy, except that Muammar sponsored Museveni's guerrilla bush war. If it wasn't for Gaddaffis petrol-dollars its unlikely that Museveni would have grabbed power in 1986. For that Qaddafi will always want to be "paid." He wants to rule the USA (United States of Africa!) or at minimum militarily command its forces. He lost a fight with the west that is why he has been reduced to a oil trader; his proper station in life that the west loves. After "the Mad Dog of Libya" (Ronald Reagan's words) survived American bombs in 1986 and his foray into downing western aircraft was halted, he has finally been made to give up state sponsored terrorism. But he has beaten a retreat to African villages sponsoring and supporting tin pot dictators. That is why, for underwritting his bush war, Museveni has to put up with being embarrassed in international fora and dogged all the way to Kampala year in year out. It sucks. They clashed two years ago at the Africa Union Summit; Gaddafi wants United Africa yesterday; Museveni wants it gradually into the future. But Museveni is not alone; there are several "presidents" on the western african coast that have been subjected this morose humiliating behavior. It reminds one of the old-fashioned Arab Slave traders interested only in spreading Islamic faith. If Muammar had any good intentions he should use his Jamahariyah to reign on their sibling Janjaweeds in Darfur. Enough is enough. Africans don't need places of worship, Africans worship in their hearts, they need places and environments to learn and get world class education and work.
There is or are lesson or lessons. Most of these African "revolutionaries" are camel, goat, sheep, and cow herders with scant intellect who at best are glorified small "big men" African tribal chiefs. Moreover democracy is no less African than revolutionary Marxism is African. Yet Africas bet is on democracy. And finally leaders who get to power through the democratic process wouldn't have to put up or put themselves and their citizens through such perpetual international humiliation, abuse, and disrespect.
Way to go man!! Nice post...Thanks for exposing the goat herder "Ghaddafi" we have for a leader. He brought his bedouin backwardness to the once marvelous Tripoli and literally shit all over it. He used his petro-dollars to buy admiration everywhere but respect is no where to be found. People cheer him on in his ugly purple robes sitting in his lush air conditioned tent claiming the defeat of the tent over the castle. The moron just took all the luxuries from the castle to the tent. Its a shame that with money he can buy all the cheers and admiration. His ego is bigger than the entire US of Africa and he's grown to believe his lies that people cheer to. He will continue to ruin and destroy till the corrupt system he's instilled takes over for more destruction. I only hope he will get what he deserves in this life or the next.
