The Presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party(CPP), Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom has thrown a challenge to the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Presidential candidate, Prof John Evans Atta Mills to tell Ghanaians and the Central Region in particular about his achievements after serving the nation as vice President.
Paa Kwesi,
You call yourself an economist but you don't understand that the goverment's role in a democratic dispensation and capitlistic economy is not to create jobs but to promote the job creation activities of the private sector. Its a world of difference from promotion and job creation.
If you are talking about the organic view rather mechanistic view of government then that government is supreme. Individual goals are subject to whims of the government. The activity of the individual is desireable if it only serve purpose of the government. Thus, the nation creates jobs and other things that individuals can do for themselves.
In a democratic dispensation, the role of government is non-business such. The individual reigns supreme. In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith stated that the role of government should be protection of private property. Even if you are a social democrat, the role of government is not to create jobs.
I hope you will not go around campaigning telling people that you are going to create jobs for them. That will be disingenuous and straight out fabrication.
