Ghana: Human Rights Groups Sue Government Over Detained Refugees

A coalition of human rights organisations has sued the Ghanaian government for "gross violation" of the rights of Liberian refugees in reaction to the simmering stand-off over repatriations.

I want to first thank the human rights group in Ghana for the step taken thus far against their government for such an unfair and unrealistic action towards the refugee in Ghana who by any mains can not protect themselves rather to rely on the government for security and protection. The Ghanian government was too quick to act without addressing the concerned of the refugee and to ensured that their actions were peaceful. This is a clear indication that the road to uniting ourselves as a people, as a region, and as a continent is yet far from been realize. This do not means that our objectives of reaching peace can not be reach, but we as a people first need to identify our problem and work toward resolving them to the letter. And to the Liberian refugee in Ghana, before making such decision you must first understand regarding the laws of that nation any nation for that matter before doing thing of such, it is the responsibilities of government to mentain stability throughout its geographical boundaries, but this doesn't means that the refugee actions was not peaceful.

Thanks

Bobwillie

I am happy that the fighting for the restoration of human dignity is a global issue and concerns. Most Africa countries has regained their independence in many years ago and sometimes, people behave and react just like they have never been to school. Why the judicial branch of the goverment is created for? And why institutions are created to make sure people abide by these laws?

But in the event of the Ghana Minister of interior, he has broken these laws into his favor which, he is the cause for the violation of the rights of these refugees which he has to answer for it. In our history lessons, we have been blaming our "colonial" powers for treaten African slaves unhuman and degrading conditions but in recent history, where we expect civilisation and human dignity, some of our own leaders are even more worse 95% compare to that of the slave trade. Let us try to learn how to respect ourselves and other people no matter what is your position, political affiliation, your wealth etc. Before taken any drastic decison that could harm other people, please put you first into that condition before taken further step. Thank you -

For those that live in war country and those that see it from media such as TV, Radio, and News paper etc and who had the opportunity to visit Refugee Camps and see the effect of war , especially with Children and see their lives , how they look and the environment which they live . RCA, knowing the facts that Africa is the second largest continent in the world and the civil conflicts and civil war are found within Africa , with such , there are lot of b refugee camps in Africa , lot of orphans children , street children , no better education facility. No better health care. In these camps, the worst of the part of the situation is the parents of these children have no jobs and they are spending lives on the camp together with their children without future. why should the children be the victums for this? the closet thing to God is a child. they should never want for ant thing in this. the children dont ask for much, just for food and water and keep cloths on them, candy.here in the refugee camps, u have to pay to use the bathroom, and u have to pay for water, and pay for the food to eat, why should u have to pay for all this, when the children didnt ask for all this confict between all of this? why? plz visit my website at http://refugeechildrenofafrica.page.tl/ MAY GOD BLESS ALL THE LITTLE CHILDREN IN THESES REFUGEE CAMPS THAT R ALL OVER THE AFRICA, AND OTHER PARTS OF THIS WORLD, THE CLOSET THING TO GOD , IS A CHILD. Come on, Dada Koffuor, come on Ghana. you are known for your stunch democratic principles such as freedom of expression and speech. Now why do you seem to catch the cold when unharmed, meek and dependent liberians simply voiced out their concerns, not even to you, but to the UNHCR, and all of a sudden you begin to shiver and let loose commandoes to guard a few sheep? It is uncalled for and this action of yours is far below your standard as a world-recognised nation which guards the inalienable rights of people living within your jursidiction. What is your problem? Look, you are a great people, who to me has produced the World's finest son and President the late Kwame Nkrumah (RIP)and Africa's livliest diplomat - the Mighty Koffi Annan - who diplomatically quelled the fires of hate, strife and bitterness in one Mother Africa's peace - loving nation like that of yours. Much more you birthed one of the world's most talked - about politician - Rawlings, who helped shaped Ghana 's history. Come on, politicians, you are among the softest, brainiest people on planet earth. Then why, I mean why on earth should you overeact at the game harmless lambs like liberians, you have helped gave peace, rest and dignity, are playing? Look! this is a shameful move on your part and I'm totally disappoined not because am a liberian, but as a quiet observer of world events, and I pray a united position to better the lot of my fellow countrymen will crown the day. Afterwards, you are a capable hand to see such come to pass. May Myame bless you. Aye ko!

They are people with rights and I am glad that the Human rights groups have step on the toes of the Ghana goverment to know ,no matter what ,refugees, or not , they have rights and they were violated. they are not cattle to be herded. The standoff of repatriations is no excuse for any human beingf to be treated as these people. the Liberians to be treated. it was over stimulated of human behavior treatment. as ameroican citzen Not only I, but other Anericans are watching this situation closely and so is the world. Too many childern and women are being mishandle and Ghana miacted to the situation with great carelessness.

Well, everything in dis world got its starts and end. i for example felt very bad and angry with the issue on the ground between Lib/Ghanaians.Frist of all, being a refugee is nt a crime and secondly,Ghanaians should be greatful for all the helps my fellows(liberians)had done for them.Ghana is wat it is today becus of the same people the claim are rebels(Liberians refugees).Their government sold our rites as a refugees and now wants to send us back after they have develop their country.I was a month old wen i left Lib and i spent my whole life in ghana.Ghanaians(government)should know tht war no dey 4 one person. they claim tht they 've got laws, but dont know how to apply it on a simple issue like this. They were the one tht cause thus problem for my poor fellows(liberians) in their country. They feel so jealous of us,even though we were refugee in their country, al least we had it to eat and dressed well to.We build tht camp with our sweat and blood. We aboard called tht Camp small America. its very hard to believe. I hope we all learn a good lesson from this, with all the treatment peoples were gettin from those police....our president reaction was poor. she went there to beg for help and didnt show tht wat a man can do, she can do it better. why was she begging for. No one is about the laws, those refugee did the best thing ever to demonstrat without causing troblue,in an educated way too. now i know the reason why white man got power over us black, because we sell ours brother and sisters just for money. Greddy government and self fish ones too. but all i can say is tht, today is Liberia, my sweet mother land, even though i dont know how it look like.Tomorrow might be ghana and then we shall see wat become of them. Fellows liberian all over the world, let put hands together in building our sweet land and we have suffered alot, some die on the way side and some are still suffering. let come together and rebuild our sweet land. im proud to be called a refugee and im proud to be called a liberian. tht my ID and NO MAN CAN CHANGE IT.

Long live the lone stars.

Let us use diplomacy to resolve this problem and rethink our African of treating a stranger and the stranger father(host). Our Liberian brothers and sisters are not criminals so the Government of Ghana should not treat them as such. Remember, thousands of Ghanaian lived in Liberia as well so deportation is not the way forward.
