Zimbabwe: President Tsvangirai Statement - Movement for Democratic Change

The MDC has noted a report in today's (8 July 2008) state run newspaper, The Herald, to the effect that dialogue between MDC and ZANU PF "will resume soon." The paper writes on its front page;

"We welcome the statement attributed to President Mbeki in Japan to the effect that there is no legitimate government in Zimbabwe." - this being so, President Mbeki must either tell Robert Mugabe that he represents only Zanu-pf at the negotiating table, and is not recognised as the head of government, or if he is not prepared to do that then Mbeki should stand aside and request that SADC appoint another mediator.

But we all know that Mbeki has a hidden agenda re Mugabe and is far from neutral, and Mugabe will have Tsvangarai killed before he lets him in power... So what will happen? There will never be a GNU, because both sides loath the other so strongly. Mugabe will continue as 'president' for the next 5 years, and hopefully retire, leaving his generals to run the country, and once again we will see mass intimidation next election so they can stay in power and rape the country some more. Mean while the Zimbabwean people will suffer.
