This is a very good positive development towards
saving the Mau Forest.
The 10 RV MPs reaction is very much understandable.
First their community is the one to sacrifice for
others to benefit from the Mau Forest. These
communities are within the Forest, whereas others
would wait for the benefit from without the forest.
Positive thing we read from the MPs is that they
are in agreement with saving the Mau Forest, and even
much better still that they are ready to move out from
the affected areas. This is a very good gesture which
should not go without compliment.
The PM Odinga should now spell out a very clear policy
of saving the Mau Forest, and this should be very
clearly explained to the affected communities.
The affected communities should be very well explained,
to and informed of the importance of the policy and
how it affects them and of what benefit it is to them.
Without this the problem would recur in future. (The
communities should be {must be} part of the solution)
If the communities are well informed coexsitng with
the forest without detrimental destruction would be
easy, they would even be protecting the forest from
their hearts. This is the work of the PM to sell his
vision of saving the Mau Forest to these affected
communities. The 10 RV MPs do not share PM's vision,
it is up to him to convince them.
Finally, we are just human and finding a lasting and
permanent soultion to our problems is rather impossible.
But whatever we can perceive "at the moment to be the
best solution" let us pursue it wholeheartly as if
our entire life depend on it and try not to destroy
our environment.
