Nigerians, fasten your seatbelt. This slap in the face is described in the movie business as the "coming attractions". You ain't seen nothing yet, as Americans usually say. And frankly, you can't say I did not warn you.

In my earlier commentaries, I basically spelled out what would happen when the Russian leader visited Nigeria. Apart from their calculated attempt to want to invest and control the flow of gas from the Niger Delta through the Trans-Saharan pipelines, I can almost predict that somehow, they would sabotage the interests of others who wishes to participate in the so-called Joint Venture. The objective of Gazprom is to control the distribution of gas as an energy source for heating homes in Europe. Russia also wants to reconstitute the Warsaw Pac, and to challenge America's assertions of nuclear supremacy in matters concerning its former East European satellite countries. Nigeria's intent to build the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline posses a major challenge to Russia's ability to want to control the economies of Europe. Whether Europeans and Americans see this as a major issue is purely irrelevant to me as a Nigerian. What I do not personally want is for Nigeria to be used as a pawn in a seeming economic cold war which could eventually hurt the entire continent.

When the Russian leader arrived Nigeria, he scheduled visits to some of their former satellite countries in Africa such as Namibia, Mozambique and Angola where their experiment of Soviet Communism failed woefully. These countries are just now, beginning to get back on their feet and on the road to surviving in this complex global economy. The last experiment of a Soviet System in Africa saw the dethronement of Emperor Haile Selesa. Col. Mengustu destroyed Ethiopia totally along with countless lives who perished under a very oppressive regime. African leaders do not need anymore lessons from these foreign ideologues whose only objectives are to find ways to steal as much natural and mineral resources out of Africa in order to enrich themselves. We need to wake up and smell the roses, or some real African coffee from Uganda or Kenya.

Today the new acronym is Nigaz. But tomorrow, the new syllogism may be the rebranded KGB's assassination of Nigerian leaders who may disagree with Russia's policies. And when this happens, the West would sit idly by and watch Nigerians squeak for help. The case will end up at the UN where formal admonishments would be tabled, and from there, the case would die a natural death, and more killings would take place. It wasn't long ago that a similar thing took place in Britain, and to this day, no one has come forward to apologize for the lives lost in Britain.

I would be the last one to recommend any sort of business dealings with Russia to the degree that Nigeria's participation could determine whether any part of the EU receives gas for heating homes during the winter at a reasonable price, or pay Gazprom exorbitant and cut-throat prices so as to force their former sattelite countries to join them once again for a negotiated concessionary discount prices. It wasn't long ago that attempts were made to poison the President of the Ukrain because he failed to tow the line. The West protested, after what happened during the Orange Revolution. These gullible leaders in Nigeria should be fully aware of Russia's intentions. We do not have sattelite capabilities to engage the Russian State in counter-intelligence activities, nor would any country in the West agree to work with Nigeria in such undertakings. And if they did, such information could've been terribly skewed to the degree that any prices paid for such ventures may not be justified by a predictable outcome. In other words, no oyibo man go compromise another oyibo man to satisfy a naija man. Nigeria, you'd better wake up.
