Cameroun: North West : Students Kept Busy During Holidays

The assistant D.O for Mezam Mathew Motale Itoe has lauded "Brasseries Du Cameroon" for promoting the game of Football in Cameroon. He made the appreciation at the launching of the 19th edition of under seven Top Cup competition at Bamenda Municipal Stadium recently.

He recounted that a hand full of Division 1 and National team players like Song Bahanac, Wome Nlend, Njeremi Njitap, Eto'o Fils, Salomon Olembe, Njemba Njemba, Ngom Kome, Nicolas Alnondji and Patrick Suffo are products of the Brasseries Football school. In this regard, he urged the young footballers to exhibit their talents in a bid to grasp a ticket into the Brasseries Football school. Football, he went on, has become on lucrative sport activity.

The competition will apparently reinforce national unity and integration the dream of the President Paul Biya, the D.O. said. He warned against social immorality that plague the future organization of the trophy. Fair play, he said, should be their watchword to ensure peace. The chief of center for Brasseries du Cameroun, Wysenyuy Julius regretted that most North West parents do not know the importance of the Top Cup Competition and the Brasseries Football School. The competition, he said, is geared towards selection of youths for the national team etc. Those who successfully pass through the school end up as professionals, or players of division 1 or the national team players. This in a bid to replace old players and ensure continuity. Recruitment in to the football school does not hamper academics as measures have been taken to ensure smooth academic follow up upon recruitment. The competition is also aimed at keeping students busy to check crime wave orchestrated by idleness. Only academic needs are given to participants as "we don't want to encourage children to get used to money at tender ages," Wysenyuy said. The competition is limited to children between ages of 12 to 14 and has a duration of one month.
