Africa: Big Brother Africa 3!

Kampala — IT would seem that it does not matter what ethics minister, Dr James Nsaba Buturo thinks. The people have spoken and M-Net is returning yet another season of their popular and phenomenally successful reality TV show, Big Brother Africa (BBA) 3!

The show begins on Sunday, August 24, just hours after the 2008 Olympic Games end and will run for 91 days with the finale scheduled for Sunday, November 23. Channel O VJ Kabelo Ngakane will once again host the series, screened live from the BBA house in Johannesburg, South Africa.

As with season 1 and 2, in BBA 3, 12 individuals will be chosen as BBA 3 housemates from 12 African countries (Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe). They will live together and after several rounds of public voting, one will walk away $100,000 (sh170m) richer!

They will have no contact with the outside world and will be watched by audiences 24 hours on DStv channel 198. In addition, M-Net will screen four 30-minute daily shows (Tuesday to Friday) and a late-night 'Uncut' show. Audiences can also look out for 60-minute weekly highlights, nomination and eviction shows.

DStv has already begun calling for entries for the reality super-series.

To enter BBA 3, one must be over 21 years old; a Ugandan citizen and in possession of a valid passport. They should also be fluent in English, fun-loving, vocal, creative, original and articulate.

In addition, all entrants must be tolerant of views and lifestyle choices other than their own and must have the social flexibility to live in close proximity with others. If you fit the bill, collect an entry form from MultiChoice Uganda offices on Buganda Road or log on to www.mnetafrica.com. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

Once all the entries have been received, a selection team will begin evaluating them, short-listing potential housemates, who will then undergo a series of medical and physical tests to check their suitability for the show's tasks and challenges.

As with previous editions of the series, audiences will also be able to see Africa's top musicians and performers take their turn on the BBA stage, which provides a unique platform to showcase African talent on its Sunday eviction shows.

Special guests will also make their appearance in the BBA house throughout the series, many to promote relevant social awareness programmes, whilst others will be celebrity visitors.

Joseph Hundah, M-Net director of operations for sub-Saharan Africa, says they were motivated to return the show because of the overwhelming response it has got from viewers across the continent: "With over 900,000 SMSs received, over 14 million page impressions registered on the show website and over four million video clips viewed online, the incredible demand for BBA 2 has motivated us (M-Net) to create a third season."

It's relieving to finanly get BBA back on the screen for Africa to relax and learn solidarity amount themselves though with different traditions and culture. What i appreciate this show is not just for the fact that it is reality show but also because it serves a purpose of illustrating africa a one and a people who can love and make strong bonds among themselves and a worlr at large.I congratulate all it's sponsors and most especially the initiator of this show. But to be sincere, i am really worried for there has never been a candidate from Francophone Africa.
