CELEBRATED Nigerian artistes, P-Square, hitting the stage as curtain-raisers almost sounds incredible!
But that will be the case at the Lugogo Cricket Oval this evening as Senegalese-American superstar Akon performs.
The stature of his Nigerian lead curtain-raisers, who are a gargantuan international brand, in their own right, only gives a hint about what the show promises.
It means monster tracks like Bizzy Body and Do Me will be served only as icing on Akon's cake, alongside the best of Ugandan stars.
The R'n'B star comes with the reputation of an electrifying performer - call it maestro - who engages the audience and sometimes even loses himself to the thrill.
Akon's lyrics come straight from the heart, and emotions will surely rise high when that sharp, silky voice cuts through the air.
Locked up will at least have you feeling sympathetic with prisoners as the star tells his prison experience of 'visitation no longer comes by/seems like they forgot about me it' while Lonely will quite inexplicably move even those who are not lonely and I Tried might get you crying and smiling at the same time. There are also those songs that will get you dancing, such as Bananza and Mama Africa.
The music simply gives Akon on a plate - his experiences, feelings, contemplations, imaginations, and all. He says: "I've got a habit of writing about everything I go through. When I'm on the mic, I'm just giving the listener a part of me."
Today's show, according to manager Nandu Dupy will be illuminated by laser lighting imported from a lighting company in the UK and South Africa, while stage and sound equipment is from Da Homeboyz in Nairobi, Kenya.

More than 35,000 fans are expected at the show. Gates open at 6.00pm.
Akon never arrived?
