Seminary schools have continued to dominate Form Six national examinations, according to results released in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Six Roman Catholic seminary schools appeared in the first top twenty slots, outsmarting public and private owned schools.

The secret behind the success being identifying best students as soon as they join Form Five or ordinary level schools and to closely guide them through to final examinations.

Results released by the National Examination Council executive secretary, Dr Joyce Ndalichako, showed that four seminary schools appeared in the top ten schools with more than 25 candidates, while six others appeared in the top ten schools with less than 25 candidates.

Seminaries in the first category includes Sanu in Manyara, Maua and Uru in Kilimanjaro and Nyegezi in Mwanza). The other six in the second category are St. James Kilema in Kilimanjaro, Kaengesa in Rukwa, St. Joseph Kilocha in Iringa, Dungunyi in Singida, Likonde in Ruvuma and Bangala Lutheran junior seminary in Tanga.

Seminary high schools had 1,509 a total of 1,509 candidates this year out of whom 1,226 (81.25 per cent) excelled in the examinations. Last year the schools had 1,274 candidates of whom 1,026 (80.53 per cent) passed.

Public schools had registered 14,099 candidates out of whom 10,203 (72.37 per cent) scored division one and three against 7,889 (66.95 per cent) who passed last year.

Government and private schools with over 25 successful candidates are Kifungilo Girls Secondary School in Tanga, Kibosho Girls in Kilimanjaro, Mzumbe Secondary School in Morogoro, Kilosa Secondary School in Morogoro, Swilla Secondary School Mbeya and Marian Girls - Coast.
