Before winding up his 6- Day working visit to Rwanda, the Burundian Vice President, Dr. Yves Sahinguvu and his delegation on Wednesday visited Gisozi memorial site to pay tribute to those who were killed during the 1994 Tutsi genocide.
Dr. Yves Sahinguvu laid wreaths on the mass graves where 250.000 people are buried. He was accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Joseph Habineza.
The Burundian Vice President signed the visitor's book and donated $500 (about Frw280,000) to support extension works to the memorial centre.
In an interview with Journalists shortly after the visit, Dr. Yves Sahinguvu said it was his third time to visit Rwanda and did not at any occasion miss to visit Gisozi memorial site.
The Burundian Vice President who was shocked by what happened in Rwanda in 1994 said preventing genocide from occurring again should not be one person a single country's task, but should be the duty of the whole World.
"Genocide is like a 'virus' that infects the whole World. It requires people from across the globe to fence it off," Dr. Sahinguvu said. The Vice President said Rwanda has exhibited a tremendous success to wards developing its self.
"Rwanda has really registered incredible success which other countries should emulate, like unity and reconciliation process, good governance, security and quick economic development," Dr. Sahinguvu said, adding that Rwandans should teach the entire world on these issues.
Dr. Sahinguvu met with different government officials and discussed several issues regarding the two countries including Education, infrastructure and security in the region.

After meeting with government officials, the Burundian vice President also visited different institutions including the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Office of Tourism and National Parks (ORTPN) and National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC).
