Former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), has said that he was confident that the sector probe in the House of Representatives would lead to a lasting solution in the power sector.
Speaking in Sagamu during a condolence visit to Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel on the death of his mother, Babangida said probing of past administrations is not a new thing in the country.
"My boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo did that in this country. Well, first of all, I think this is not new, it is not new in the history of Nigeria. When Obasanjo came in, he probed administrations before him, we did, I think it is not new".
Also speaking to newsmen at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport yesterday on his way to Minna, Babangida, said for the country to have regular power supply there must be concerted efforts by all citizens to ensure that adequate electricity is provided.
"All hands must be on deck, I have a role to play, you have a role to play, and everybody has a role to play. We must put our hands together to support the government in its effort to restore power in the country."
On his assessment of President Yar'Adua's one year in office, Babangida said the administration needs time to study the terrain because of the diversity of the Nigerian nation.
"We need to appreciate his government by giving him time. A big country like Nigeria with its diversity in terms of culture and administration, I think they need time first of all to even study what the country's problems are. And May next year, you plan how to tackle some of these problems. Because I've been there before, I can understand", he said.

Asked whether he is still nursing the ambition of ruling the country again as president, IBB said "the reasons I gave you are still valid, you go and read them. I wrote them and you published it in your papers, go and do research on it" .
What is this man IBB looking for as a matter of fact he should be part of the on going probe into is fruitless 8 year tenure that say wantom disregard for the rule of law, general disobedience in the populace, breech of civil orderliness, unimaginable institutionilizing of corruption, arson, nepotism and killings of the innocent.
How can Nigerians forget what happened to the gulf war windfalls. His ill gotten wealth must be probed and he must never be allowed to run for elections because of his weak past records. He believe so much in his wealth that he thinks... [Read Full Text]
The probe of Obasanjo's administration should indeed be thorough with recorded facts and figures shown to the world. However, the pobe by this administration should not be selective and limited to Obasanjo, a thorough probe of Abacha's administration SHOULD be carried out to investigate Abacha,s contribution to Energy and Power, the NNPC, the Nigerian Railways, Ajaokua Steel Project, the Petroleum Development Fund, the Nigerian Airways Corporation. This administration SHOULD also probe the Babangida,s administration very thoroughly and the probes SHOULD be extended to the administration of General Buhari and the administration of President Shehu Shagari. On very... [Read Full Text]
