One suspect in the recent robbery incident at Marangu, Moshi rural district, Kilimanjaro region, has been identified as a Tanzanian despite carrying a Kenyan ID when felled down.
His relatives say he is called Valentine Tesha,36, a resident of Kikelelwa village near Tarakea township in Rombo district which borders Kenya.
Initially, the suspect was thought to be Kenyan because he was found with the Kenyan ID with his picture and the name of Joseph Gothongo Muiru, 45.
His body was taken by his relatives last Friday for burial in his village, according to the acting Kilimanjaro regional police commander, Mr Ramadhani Baruti.
"His family members identified him, and they came to us and confirmed that he was not a Kenyan as the ID he carried showed", Mr Baruti said.
On June 22 four suspects were killed when they raided several bars and guest houses in Marangu on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro.
They were part of a six-man gang among whom two escaped.
Afterwards they fired a bullet into the air and commanded people around to give them whatever they had.
Subsequently they took from them mobile phones, money, radios and a TV deck.
Then they went to the guest house where they confronted the owner of the bar, Mr Erick Shayo, 40.
They broke the cash draw, took some money and ran away.
After about 30 minutes, the gangsters invaded another bar located about 250 meters from the first one.
In the bar owned by a businessman known as Mr Egbert Sifael Maleko,39, they ordered all customers to lie down.
But Mr Egbert stealthily went to his house nearby and brought his shotgun with eight bullets.
Then he hid himself near the bar, and when the gangsters were coming out he shot at them with his gun, starting with the one who was carrying a pistol.
The police found Tesha with a Kenyan identity card number 4899725 registered at Loitoktok in Uasin Gishu district.
