Nigeria: EFCC Arraigns Jimoh Ibrahim

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday at High Court, Ikeja, Lagos arraigned the Chief Executive Officer of Global Fleets Oil and Gas Limited, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim for forgery and defrauding Trade Bank plc now liquidated with the sum of N1 Billion.
In a six count charge application brought before the court, the EFCC informed the court that Jimoh Ibrahim, fraudulently obtained a loan of N1 billion claiming to be the Director of VGC Communication Limited.
In the particular offence, the first count cited that the defendant is accused of forgery that on or about the 26th day of September, 2005, at Lagos with the intent to defraud, forged a board resolution of VGC Communication Limited the purpose of obtaining a loan from the Trade Bank plc.
"Other counts are uttering a false document containing section 468 of the criminal code law cap c17 vol . 23 of the Lagos State of Nigeria , 2003.
"Obtaining money under false pretences contrary to section 3 of Advance fee fraud and other fraud related offences Act Cap A 6 Vol 1 of the Federation of Nigeria,2004.
"Personation contrary to section 484 of the criminal code law caps C17 Vol 2 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,2003.
"Forgery contrary to section 467 (1) of (A) of the criminal Law cap C17 vol. 12 law of Lagos State of Nigeria".
Also in related offences the ,Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation(NDIC) was said to have written to the EFCC of Ibrahim Jimoh and two of his related companies, Global Fleet Oil and Gas company Limited and VGC Communication Ltd of debt owned Trade Bank Limited before its liquidation.
Though the defendant did not appear in court in person, the case has been adjourned to 30 July for further hearing.

LEADERSHIP last night, Mr. Ibrahim said he was not aware of any charge against him by the EFCC, saying nobody informed him about the matter. He said if the charges are linked to the issue of the Trade Bank as was speculated yesterday, then the commission has no case against him as he has since paid all his debts to the bank.
