While addressing stakeholders at last Friday's congress, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) president, Nahim Khadi, said some sector of the media constituted a major challenge for him during his first term administration. In his speech, the SLFA president said, "The reputation of football as a brand was also a major challenge to our administration. Some sector of the media contributed to the low image of our gains by means of ill-information to a gullible public."

To verify the claim that the media really affected his administration or if they posed a major challenge to his executive, Concord Sports spoke to Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, the presenter and producer of Sports Extra on Skyy Radio. Sesay backed the SLFA president's comment about the media saying the practitioners were not fair to Nahim's administration."

Indeed some media institutions are guilty. They never cross-check any information about the SLFA but will go ahead and give negative publicity about Nahim and his executive," he said. He went on to advise his colleagues to be objective in their reporting adding that a good journalist must cross-check his/her stories before publishing them.Expressing the same view, the proprietor of Spectator Newspaper, Victor Lewis said the media is part of SLFA problems."

Journalists should attack issues, not personalities. On the side of Nahim, he has his own problems. He is hot tempered. My advice to both parties is that SLFA should embrace the journalists. On the other hand, journalists should not provoke situation and be objective while doing their jobs," Lewis said. In his own words, SLFA Secretary General, Alimu Bah noted that media approach towards the football association was harsh and did play a role in affecting the administration of football in the country. "My position is, there should be a marriage between football and the media. Football cannot go without the media or publicity, which is why this time around, we need a qualified media officer that will manage the information of the association," he said.
