ALL for a worthy cause. That just sums it up all when a record 15 musicians thrill multitudes during the Chitungwiza Central Hospital Benefit Concert scheduled for the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on Saturday night.
Leading the pack would be none other than sungura titans Alick Macheso, Hosiah Chipanga, Nicholas Zakaria and Cephas Mashakada who will jam throughout the musical pungwe in an effort to help raise funds for refurbishing of their hospital.
Interestingly, the quad have not only become a permanent feature of the annual show - now in its third year running - but have also become part of the organising committee of the musical event.
The self-proclaimed prince of sungura, First Farai, Chimurenga musician Pio Farai Macheka and Musekiwa Zanove have also thrown in their weight behind the event and are expected to make their maiden appearance as part of line up.
Diverse upcoming music groups from Chitungwiza and Harare have also been roped into the programme.
On the gospel front, Baba Mechanic Manyeruke is expected to hold his own with his inspiring and soothing gospel vibes whose messages are not only relevant to the event but also therapeutic.
Speaking on Wednesday, Chipanga said this was an opportunity for the community of Chitungwiza and the nation at large to come together and support a worthy cause.
"There were no national galas that were held this year and this concert comes as an opportunity for people to converge and rally behind the gala whose aim is to raise funds for the purchase of drugs and the improvement of the hospital," he said.
He also promised his fans new songs carried on his forthcoming six-track album Father Zimbabwe due for release late next month.
It comprises tracks such as Father Zimbabwe, Ndichagara Sei and Mudzimu Neronda, among others.
Cephas Mashakada - who promised to belt out his all-time favourites such as Samson, Vadzidzi Vangu and Dherira - said he was raring to go and commit himself fully to the concert and urged members of the public to come in their numbers.
Meanwhile, the chief executive officer of the hospital Dr Obadiah Moyo exuded praise for the musicians who have dedicated their services to the concert.
"We are extremely grateful for the support that the musicians are providing us with. They have stuck to their promise that they would stand by us to make the gala a success.
"We are also happy that their support has enabled us to improve the services that we offer as a hospital," he said.
Dr Moyo said the money raised from the concert would go a long way for the tiling of the hospital, the purchase of drugs and the construction of a maternity ward, among other amenities.
"Since it is not just a hospital for the community of Chitungwiza but a national institution, all should come and support us. As you know, the hospital is now a centre of excellence considering that it recently attained ISO certification."
The idea of the concert was first conceived three years ago after the hospital was upgraded from being a general to a central hospital.
At the inaugural gala, Macheso and Mashakada played before a capacity crowd that jammed the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex for the fun-filled musical pungwe.
Funds raised at the last concert were channelled towards the purchase and repair of mortuary equipment, among other services.

Ironically, Mashakada was to be admitted at the same hospital last year after he was diagnosed of diabetes. He was eventually treated free of charge.
