The Government should exercise patience over the Juba peace talks and continue negotiations with the LRA, veteran politician Jaberi Bidandi Ssali has said.

"There is need for patience so that the ordinary person gets assurance that peace is soon coming back in this troubled area.

"The Government has the power of the gun but for the sake of peace, it should persuade the man (Kony) it calls a lunatic to talk and sign the peace agreement."

Bidandi, who is also the head of the People's Progressive Party, made the remarks recently at a youth dialogue at Gulu Sunset Hotel.

The talks stalled in April after Joseph Kony, the LRA leader, failed to turn up for the final signing session.

Asked what he had done to stop the war in the 17 years he spent in the Government, Bidandi responded: "I did well in my local government and energy sectors. About Kony, there was nothing I did because there was nothing I could do."
