Nigeria: Governor Saraki Counsels Muslims On Islamic Education

The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has charged Muslims in the country to pay more attention to Islamic education.
The Governor, who was a special guest of honour at the 2008 National Quranic recitation competition and presentation of prizes held at the Ilorin Central Mosque, Oja Oba expressed joy over the event. He noted that the competition was a good step towards making the youths spiritually sound.
Saraki, represented by secretary to the state Government, (SSG), Alhaji Saka Onimago, said that the knowledge gained in such competition was crucial to their moral life and urged Muslims to enroll their children in Quranic schools to learn the tenets of Islam.
He therefore urged participants and the winners to always match their words with good deeds and present themselves as good ambassadors of the state.
The Quranic competition which featured participants from the 16 local government areas of the state saw Abdulateef Suleiman, from Offa local Government area, energy as overall winner in the first category who went home with a television set, DVD player, books, Quran and praying mat.
Earlier in his speech, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, represented by the former Grand Khadi, Alhaji Abdulkadri Orire, expressed delight over the event saying that it would help to spread the good message of Islam.
The Emir advised clerics and parents to see Islam as a cherished faith, adding that parents should equipped their children with sound Islamic education.

He urged Islamic Scholars and members of the public not to relent in their efforts at spreading the message of Islam, as abundant blessings await them in the hereafter.
