The first-ever Central African Handicap Games that was initially scheduled for Yaounde from July 16 - 19 has been postponed to August 2-4, following a series of organisational lapses by the different commissions and committees.
The decision by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education came at the wake of the second preparatory meeting in Yaounde, recently."We cannot start the competition without the materials. We are going to acquire the materials necessary, have sports installations and lodging facilities ready.
The postponement is to enable us polish up." Sports and Physical Education Minister, Augustin Thierry Edjoa, said. He made the statement at the end of the second preparatory meeting at the conference hall of the Ministry in Yaounde.
The Technical Commission cited as hindrance, the fact that the National Institute of Youth and Sports, INJS, Yaounde, are still writing end of year exams and thus the institution cannot host any competition.
The Finance Committee was unable to disburse funds even though the Ministry of Sports had already attained the first quota of its budget for the Olympic Games. The Marketing Committee has not equally received any feedback from sponsors and the quality of lodging structures for visiting delegations is not up to standard. The President of the Animation Committee was absent.
To ensure hitch-free preparation, the initial hatchet between the focal point of the games and President of the Federation of Handicap Sports were buried as they promised to work together towards the success of the competition.
It was also revealed that only Gabon, Central African Republic and Congo have confirmed their participation. Chad would be absent because of social upheavals. The President of Cameroon Federation of Sports for Handicapped Persons, Emile Abeng-Mbozo'o, disclosed that, the athletes are prepared for a win.

The Regional Vice President for Handicap Sport, Jean-Marie Aleokol, said the drawbacks should serve as a starter for Cameroon to exhaust every means necessary to organise a smooth-running competition that reflects her position in the sub-region.
