Plateau — Sir Peter Wuyep, EU-Prime Project Manager, Plateau state yesterday said the agency spent more than N200m on various projects in Plateau in the past four years. EU-Prime is mostly concerned with the immunisation of children against the six killer childhood diseases, and the prevention of other maternal diseases.
Wuyep made the disclosure in Jos, at the launch of the state chapter of Journalists For Immunization Efficiency (JFI), an EU-Prime initiative.
He said: "EU-Prime started operations in Nigeria in six states representing the geopolitical zones and currently operates in 23". He said that the formation of JFI was to partner with the media to champion the enhanced Routine Immunisation (RI).
According to him, activities of the organisation have helped in reducing the six killer childhood diseases and maternal mortality rates in the country. "Journalists are needed to form a strong coalition to champion Routine Immunisation which had suffered little hitches in the recent past," he said. Wuyep said RI was necessary to safeguard children and their mothers against the deadly diseases.
He disclosed that over the years, the EU-PRIME had been assisting both the State and Local Governmentsin Plateau. He said that, the Plateau Government had benefited from a gesture of 48 solar refrigerators valued at N1.5 million each, for the storage of vaccines.
According to him, EU-PRIME is about to construct a Resource Centre at the College of Health Technology, Zawan. "EU-PRIME would in the next few months, purchase 17 vehicles for each of the 17 council areas to further RI in the State.
