The report on the current political and security situation in Central African Republic covers the period from January to June 2008, focusing mainly on political, security, socio-economic, humanitarian and human rights developments during that period. The political situation is dominated by preparations for an inclusive political dialogue aimed at ending the country's security crisis. Although the intensity of the conflict has decreased, the security forces still with impunity and their victims are often civilians. The lawlessness needs to decrease. The country's overall economic prospects continued to improve with a 4.2 percent GDP for 2007. Public sector workers and university lecturers continued to organize protracted labor strikes complaining mainly about unpaid salaries. The majority of the population in northern Central African Republic continue to live in fear and insecurity due to massive population displacements and restricted humanitarian operations.
