Executive members of the associations which have over two million members made the declaration in Yaounde over the weekend.
No fewer than 35 youth associations within and out of the country have pledged their unalloyed support to the Head of State Paul Biya as he seeks re-election. Executive members of the groups which comprise of over two million members have also called on their peers to take their destiny into their hands come October 7, by voting for Paul Biya. They made the solemn declaration in Yaounde, Saturday August 11, 2018.
According to Aboubakar Ndjidda, Deputy National Coordinator of the Union of Patriotic Youths for Paul Biya (JAPA BI), their decision to fully support Paul Biya is informed by the quest for peace, national unity, economic growth and diplomatic victories. The young people also want the incumbent President to have another mandate so that he can continue major construction projects such as the Yaounde -Douala express way.
"Mindful of the fact that it is absolutely necessary to restore State authority in some localities in the North West and South West Regions... We call on all Cameroonians to massively vote in favour of candidate Paul Biya, the man who reassures. He says what he does and does what he says," Aboubakar told reporters.
The group which goes by the appellation G35 lauded President Paul Biya for creating seven ministries which take care of the preoccupation of youths. They also acknowledged special programmes put in place by the Head of State in favour of youths. They cited the Special Youth Programme, the National Youth Council, the National Football Academy, the donation of 500,000 laptops to university students, amongst others.
G35 is contented that in the last 10 years, government has disbursed over FCFA 670 billion to youth-centered structures which have generated over 700,000 jobs.
Going by Dr Samuel Dongmo, President of Diaspora Forum in the US, "in life there is a moment during which we do not have the choice than to make a choice. We think that moment has come. Our choice is a courageous one, for the President Paul Biya."
The support for Paul Biya by the youths is coming after that of a group of 20 opposition political parties. Traditional rulers across the country had earlier chosen Paul Biya as their candidate.
