Reducing Global Coal Plant Emissions By Up to 11 Percent

On March 6th 2017, GE announced its new global Powering Efficiency Center of Excellence (COE), headquartered in Baden,which will apply a total plant hardware and software solution approach to boost the efficiency of the world's new and existing coal-fired power plants and significantly reduce their emissions.  GE Power's wet flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) technology already plays a key role in seeing that the Kusile Power Plant in Mpumalanga, South Africa, complies with stringent environmental requirements and to meet air quality standards. GE's Steam Power Systems has also done award-winning work on the South Africa's Medupi Power Plant. Once commissioned, the Kusile Power Plant in Mpumalanga, South Africa, is expected to become the world's fourth-largest coal-fired power plant. Kusile will also be the first South African power facility to incorporate GE Power's wet flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) technology - a state-of-the-art solution used to remove oxides of sulphur, such as sulphur dioxide, from exhaust flue gases, ensuring its compliance with stringent environmental requirements and to meet air quality standards.
